Spanish quick rules Guide.

l was thinking about making a useful article for rules in Spanish that could help you a lot in a conversation, and thought to share it with you!

Those are some General rules in Spanish, just as a quick rules guide with some other tricky things that could help.

P/S: Please note that I haven't included any ''exceptions or irregulars'' in this article, for more information and examples about those rules, please visit the

reference section.


1- Tener + que + inf = to have to

2- Hay + que + inf = it's necessary to

3- Acabar de + infinitive = To have just done something

4- Volver a + infinitive = To do something again

5- Tener : -

? sed (to be thirsty)

? hambre (to be hungry)

? sueño (to be sleepy)

? prisa (to be in hurry)

? frío (to be cold)

? calor (to be hot)

? dolor de (to hurt)

? celos (to be jealous)

? cuidado (to be careful)

? confianza (to be confident)

? razón (to be right)

? la culpa (to be mistaken/ guilty)

? ganas de (to feel like doing something)

? miedo a/de + noun (to be afraid of something)

? tener + ..... + años (to be --- years old)

? miedo a/de + inf (to be afraid of doing something)

6- Progressive tense: -

Estar + gerund (verb stem + ando for -ar verbs , or verb stem + iendo for -er and -ir verbs)

7- The Informal Future: -

ir + a + infinitive

8- Present Perfect: -

present indicative haber + past participle

9- Past Perfect: -

imperfect haber + past participle

10- Tú commands: -

Affirmative:

? Use the 3rd person singular form of the present indicative.

Negative:

? Use the tú form of the present subjunctive of each verb.

11- Vosotros Commands: -

Affirmative:

? Use the infinitive, drop the -r, add a -d

Negative:

? no + vosotros of the present subjunctive

12- Formal Commands: -

Affirmative:

? All Ud. (usted) and Uds. (ustedes) commands are the same as the Ud. and Uds. present subjunctive forms.

Negative:

? add no in front of the affirmative command

13- Nosotros Commands: -

Affirmative:

? Vamos + a + inf

? the verb in the nosotros form of the present subjunctive.

Negative:

? No + the nosotros form of the present subjunctive.

14- Infinitive commands: -

Just put the verb in the Inf form!

? This way is used in recipes, sings and instructions


Those are some rules l like to revise everyday, l have NOT included any exceptions, but those rules are normally very helpful as a quick revision wink
