Annoying ads
For the first time ever, I have stumbled on to major impediment to internet use & I discovered it first on "SpanishDict" unfortunately. When one simply rolls the mouse over the upper 2x3 inch ad on the right side it activates the ad & begins playing LOUD background music. Do I now need to consciously move my cursor up & around the ad to get to my scroll bar? No other site (spanish or otherwise) has initiated this... yet. I HOPE it's not a sign of things to come. The 2 ads so far are for "Benefiber" & Bridgestone Tire (whom I am calling Tuesday morning about this... yes I'm upset)

There is no other site, that I know of, where all content, both learning, flashcards, forum etc are absolutely FREE.
I don't see it at all so very clear and reasonable that you should be "angry" at ads, which keep this site going without you or anybody else paying anything at all for all the material you get.
This is like being invited to your friend's home for a nice meal , you don't like the meal and you complain about both the meal and the noise the children make! I mean....
I am all with Ray on this![]()
And if you have reputation points you get rid of most ads. ![]()
I have tried hard to activate the ad but it will not work for me , should I contact my
Psychiatrist and tell him that I am being ignored by ads now , or am I being
a tad paranoid . Oh and he does not answer my phone calls. ![]()
The content at SD is so interesting, that I hardly notice the adds.
At least SpanishDict doesn't have ads in front of the site content.
Don't give them any ideas!
Has anyone forgotten the awful banner ads that we had here in recent months, that animated their spot so it would push down the full page content a few inches, and cause accidental missed clicks? Yuk! I wonder if they learned their lesson, or just paused for breath before unleashing the next generation of invasive advertising technology.
Firefox + ad blocker plugin will fix this for you.
However I use Chrome and see all the ads.
The one that autoplays for me if I accidentally roll my mouse over it is the Toshiba zombie apocalypse commercial, which I find absolutely hilarious and brought the whole family in to watch. We watched it over and over (you have to watch it a few times just to understand it, it moves so fast).
Photographic Ads are fine, I can ignore them or look as I choose, but as I already posted I find the musical ones very intrusive, to the extent I almost turned the site off. In the end I muted my speakers.
These ads are certainly a failure with me as I would go out of my to avoid buying anything which was marketed in such an intrusive way.
When you get enough rep you don't get the top ads, and the side ones are easy to avoid and actually I'm enjoying them of late, there's a lot more variety than there used to be and a lot of the ads are in Spanish and even relevant to my interests sometimes!
You guys should install adblock. I have never seen this ad because of that. Hopefully someone sees this. It really will work.
These ads annoy me to no end. But calling the company in question will not yield positive results. Stay the course, I guess.
Have you ever heard the expression, "Don't bite the hand that feeds ya"? ![]()
I get a Mobil 1 ad.
I never get sound that I don't want. My mute button is convenient, and I always mute when I don't need sound for something specific that I want.
SD is not the only site with sound issues, even though it may [for now] be the easiest one to trigger.
A small inconvienence for a superb site, that's' Free '. Heck, I don't notice the ads until I think about it. Dang ads now that I think about . Now I 'm P.O.ed .
I don't have the same noisy ad that you are getting, but the little bookmark window that pops open every time you mouse over it es un sangrón.
Dita, don't diss customer dissatisfaction. It works, don't you feel it? - Vikingo
We don't disrespect anybody here.
And no, I don't see that it works, but thanks for your "positive" input whenever you come on .
Oh, yes, of course you are entitled to say stop, dear, just go somewhere else, that is the easiest way. Of course, somewhere else you will have to pay for what you get, but for some that is worth is, not for many though, good for us
I have no intention of going anywhere else, this site is great, and it is great that it is free, and of course it needs ads to pay, nothing is truly free. The only ads I object to are the noisy ones. The worst thing is they stop when you change page and the jingle starts again on the new page, continuously.
It is easily overcome though, all speakers have a mute ![]()
By the way I do have ad blocker, I feel a little guilty as I know sites like this need the income from the ads but I was on a Spanish poetry site and the ads kept appearing over the top of the poems so I couldn't read them, craziness. They had a button so you could remove an ad but another one popped up. At least SpanishDict doesn't have ads in front of the site content.
