I don't understand why so many Spanish teachers have the extravagant idea of giving students the task of finding a word that starts with this or that. What is the point from the educational point?

Anyway, this is a question we get several times every week. The W is a Germanic letter, not a Spanish one, so the very few letters with W in Spanish (less than 0.01%) are all from foreign origin. I'll give you "kiwi", a word taken from the indigenous language of New Zealand: Maori.

lol, jeezle ... I was thinking along the same lines. Why not guayaba? The "gua" Is the closest to an English "w" sound that Spanish naturally has. - gintar77, Sep 3, 2011

I quite agree with you. A lot of teachers give us work like this that isn’t really even educational in any way.

...Dad said he also agrees.
