(La) biblioteca = library

Teasip is correct but I thought it was important enough to mention that you need to be aware of the article and learn the article together with the noun, because some words have irregular articles that you might not expect eg: masculine articles with words ending in the letter: a which would normally be feminine, but are not! These words often catch-out (or trip up) the unsuspecting student of Spanish!

eg; el agua = water, el águila,= eagle, el sistema = system

These are just a few!

Please also note the difference between these two:

La biblioteca = Library but libraría = Book shop

Be careful not not get muddled up between these two because bookshop staff will not allow you to borrow books. ..and I am not sure that Spanish libraries will necessarily sell you books (even some local libraries in England often sell off old stock at reduced prices!

I hope this helps smile

Good answer! But be careful with for example "el agua", agua is actually a femenine word,if you use and adjective you need to use a femenine one. We use a masculine article because is a word starting with "a" and the strong syllable is the first one. - SpanishSkypeorg, May 6, 2014
