I´ve just listened to this song probably for the first time since I started learning Spanish and was surprised and pleased that much of it made sense straight away. However, I really don´t understand

I know that it translates as: I´m not a sailor, I´m the captain.

which I guess is an idiomatic expression

can anyone tell me what this means in the context of the song.?

also "por ti será" does that mean "it will be for you"?

I think this verse means that women living on the coast find sailors more sexy than other guys. But the singer is not a sailor (actually, he is more than a sailor: he is a captain, the highest rank), however, if she still wants a sailor, he would become a sailor for her.

Creo que este verso implica que las mujeres que viven en la costa encuentran a los marineros más atractivos que otros chicos. Pero el cantante no es marinero (de hecho, es capitán, el rango más alto). Pero si ella de todos modos quiere un marinero, él se volvería marinero por ella.
