I have studied Latin for 3 years before learning Spanish.And as porcupine said it does help learning Spanish and other foreign languages.

I studied latin in the secondary school for four years because I was preparing myself for the medical university, but it doesn' mean, that I have a serious knowledge of latin. But I have to admit it helps a lot in all of the languages /european ones/
