Do you mean to ask, how many people can speak Spanish today, or how many had to study to learn that? - pesta, Aug 23, 2011

At last count, it was 2,482,160,452. I may be off. Are we counting dead people?

If two people each have learned Spanish half-way, does that count as "one"?

Lol, funny comments.

I suspect our friend wants to know who on this forum did not speak Spanish before but actually learned the language and now can converse in Spanish. I am one of those people.

But you did not learn to write in Spanish?? - 0074b507, Aug 23, 2011
I also suspect that many folks who learned the language at SpanishDict have moved on, and are hard to count. - pesta, Aug 23, 2011
I only spoke "street Spanish" before coming here, - pacofinkler, Aug 23, 2011
Claro que si! ¿Como que no voy a aprender como escribir en español? - rodneyp, Aug 24, 2011

According to:

completespanish

Not only are there approximately 350,000,000 native speakers of Spanish (which ranks second in the world, by the way), but there are also millions of people added to that total who have learned Spanish as a second (or third, or fourth, etc.) language.

Spanish has been around for over 1000 years and the Spanish Empire covered a lot of territory. - lorenzo9, Aug 23, 2011
