My Example:

Recently, close to where I live, there was a storm during a Sugarland concert, and the stage collapsed, and seven people were killed. Very sad.

Just two things: "hubo una tormenta" and "muertas siete personas", as "personas" is a feminine word even if all dead ones are men. - lazarus1907, Aug 22, 2011
That was just awful, wasn't it Chris? I'm glad you weren't among those hurt! My son was in Indy that evening at a Wedding reception when this happened. They were fine, but the storm did go through their area too. - Gillygaloo, Aug 22, 2011
It was awful Gilly....I heard on the news today that someone else was just taken off life support - it's unbelievable what happened. I live close to Indy, so I saw some of the storm - it's great that your son wasn't hurt or anything during the storm!! - 001a2987, Aug 22, 2011
Gracias lazarus!! jeez - preterite/imperfect got me, AND gender agreement...jeez....lol - Thanks again!! :) - 001a2987, Aug 22, 2011
The same thing just happened in Belgium and 4 people were killed . . . . - Ingeteacher, Aug 22, 2011
I did hear about that Inge - very sad - strange how similar the two events were too... - 001a2987, Aug 22, 2011

I can't think of a good sentence, because I just got home from work and I'm dead tired.

I don't understand zombie movies. The dead walk, but how can you kill someone who is already dead?

Cool picture! -- Halloween is usually called the same in Spanish or "la Noche de Brujas". Your phrase isn't wrong, but it just means "All Hallow's Eve", which is the origin of the word Halloween. - gintar77, Aug 22, 2011

A long, long time ago, when I was young, the boys liked to play cowboy. They didn’t have any horses because we lived in a small street in a big city, but they could all throw a lasso. There was always a lot of shooting and many “corpses” on the lawn.

In this context "el muerto" in English is the same as a dead soldier.

"Muerte" is feminine (una muerte), but it sounds odd here to translate "bad" as "a death" ("una muerte"). - lazarus1907, Aug 22, 2011
One of the definitions given was "dirty job". I was using bad in the sense of a dirty job. I don't know if this is a correct use of muerto or not. - redrivermonkey, Aug 22, 2011
This seems to be a very colloquial use of "muerto". I'm not sure how to use it properly. - gintar77, Aug 22, 2011

I have never been in Mexico during the Day of the Dead, because it is celebrated during hurricane season and we usually go to the Riviera Maya, but I think it could be fun to go to another part that is more traditional and less touristy during this holiday after I have improved (after having improved, after improving) when I improve my Spanish sufficiently.

Disclaimer: I had difficulty choosing how to end this sentence, the English version I chose sounded the most natural to my speech patterns, but I was not convinced that would be the same for the matching Spanish version, so I provided alternatives.

Almost perfect. Unless you already have a place in mind, you have to say "es más tradicional". I would have written the last part as "cuando mejore mi español lo suficiente". - lazarus1907, Aug 22, 2011
Thank you, lazarus. - Stadt, Aug 22, 2011
I think I said "es más tradicional", do you mean I need "sea"? I actually considered "cuando mejore mi español suficientemente", but would not have known to put "lo suficiente". - Stadt, Aug 22, 2011

Usually people are scared of dead people, but in my country we say that there is no reason for that, because live people are more dangerous.
