I don't see "to upload" as a definition of "cargar," but I hear it often regarding Facebook and social networking. Is this a regional verb, or would you say it's ubiquitous?

I have heard subir more often to mean upload: to upload pictures, subir los fotos.

I'm not sure, but I do know that descargar can mean the opposite, the downloading of something onto your computer.

If you go to the dictionary and type in "upload" you come up with subir and cargar (I looked this up after my first reply.)

Both subir and cargar are commonly used for uploading files to the Web but cargar is more used for to load like loading the video into the player.

Cargar just means load I think, even when it comes to "load a truck"

When I clicked the link to answer the question firefox said "cargando" smile
