My Example:

I think I have learned more useful things from the school of life than I learned through my university education.

I was in Georgia during Russia's aggression against that country. I spent three weeks there and saw a lot of suffering and pain. Now I have a feeling that I was studying at the university of life where I've learned to forgive, to love, to understand and many, many other things....

Unfortunately student life on campus can often have a seedy side which often involves binge drinking.

Absolutely! And you used it correctly as a noun. :-) You could have also used it as an adjective by saying "la vida universitaria" -- que a menudo (or perhaps 'el que a menudo', but not "la") - gintar77, Aug 20, 2011

When I was a university student, I used to live two blocks from the University of Texas stadium, but never attended a football game, because I always had to work on Saturdays in order to pay for tuition.

:-( - Stadt, Aug 20, 2011
That's too bad. Maybe now you can go as an alumnus? -- Almost perfect. I would say "vivía" instead of "solía vivir". The latter is more like "I usually lived" rather than "I used to live". - gintar77, Aug 20, 2011
Thank you, I am still working on getting that difference down. I live too far away now to go, but I watch them on TV when I can (I was so hoping that they would get added into the PAC-12 for better coverage up here). :-) - Stadt, Aug 20, 2011
wow! thats an impressive stadium - billygoat, Aug 20, 2011
It's a big school. I can't count the number of times I ran around the track there (students can use the facilities for personal exercise when there are no sporting events). :-) - Stadt, Aug 20, 2011

I would prefer sleep or to play, but my mother says it’s never too early to prepare one’s children for the future. She wants me to have a university education when I grow up because she thinks it is very important that I find a good job later . . . . .

The one-room schoolhouse is very different from a modern university.

Note: Solo becomes sola with the femine escuela

Attempt 2:

Today, I am not a good university student.

Hoy, no soy una buena estudiante universitaria.

universitario, -a adjective 1. university

estudiante universitario, -a -> university student

I have realized that you can study your butt off, go to university and still end up jobless and poor.

Second attempt following Gintar's comments. I haven't used the correct word of the day though :'(

I did not go to university because, unfortunately, I was not clever enough. However, I have a good job and I am happy.
