You can say, "Hola, cariño". However, cariño does not have a feminine form (who knows why? rolleyes )

Because cariño, like amor and corazón, is a masculine noun. It is used in a somewhat idiomatic way to refer to someone just because people have chosen to do so, but its main function is that of any other masculine noun.

Hola!

Heliotropeman is 99.9% correct. You can say, "Hola, cariño". However, cariño does not have a feminine form (who knows why? rolleyes )

To say, "Hello dear", you should consider any of the following.

1) Hola, cariño (as Helio said)

2) Hola, mi amor

3) Hola, mi querido/querida

4) Hola, bello/a

More Spanish terms of endearment can be found here.

You can say;

Hola querida

o

Hola cariño

Sonrisa is correct in saying that cariño does not have a feminine form

Sonrisa gave you an excellent link which provides a range of other alternative phrases you can use in place of the ones we have offered you.

(By the way, neither does the word, ''marido'' = husband you would have to say esposa for wife or mujer)

I hope this helps wink smile grin
