Why is it not "la" considering it ends in "a"?

Hola!

Please read here.

That will basically explain that we use "el" and not "la" for pronunciation reasons. grin

Great question!

Just so you know, just because a word ends in "a" doesn't mean it is feminine. While the "words that end in -o are masculine, words that end in -a are feminine" is a good general rule, don't rely entirely on it. There are exceptions to everything in Spanish.

I figured it was probably a popular question, I just felt like asking myself :) - minimekayla, Aug 18, 2011
This question comes up at least two or three times a week. There should be a script that detects this key word and gives a FAQ warning before the post is submitted. - lazarus1907, Aug 18, 2011
