DO NOT use the translator!! ¡No usar el traductor!

**Work must be done by yourself. This thread is about YOUR ability not the ability of the translator. wink**

Post your sentences in Spanish and English, then vote for the ones you like. The best answer will be chosen tomorrow on the basis of the greatest number of votes and language correctness.

These threads are kindly moderated by **Gintar77**. Please correct your posts according to Gintar77’s indications and suggestions smile.

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 4 lines
• Posts which cannot be understood it is read three or four times
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
• Remember to use the Word of the Day in a typical Spanish sentence. This is great practice for you and for everyone that reads the thread to see how the Word of the Day could be used in a sentence.

Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish. (You'll be sent to the dunce corner!)
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

My Example:

El objetivo de este sitio es aprender cómo comunicarse. Ójala tendré éxito.

The objective of this site is to learn how to communicate. I hope I will be successful.

I'd say: El objetivo de este sitio es aprender cómo comunicarse (comunicar is transitive, i.e., comunicar algo). Ojalá tenga éxito. - Deanski, Aug 18, 2011
On second glance, I missed the accent on "cómo". I'm leaning towards agreeing with Deanski, but for some reason both ways sound correct to me. - gintar77, Aug 18, 2011
Thank you, Deanski! - gintar77, Aug 18, 2011
Hmmm.....Gracias Gintar and Deanski!! :) - 001a2987, Aug 19, 2011

Would you like to drink coffee from a cup in the form of a camera objective lens? A photographer would shudder to see this.

¿Le gustaría tomar un café en una taza con forma de un objetivo fotográfico? Un fotógrafo se estremecería al ver esto.

Oh my! jeje! --- Great job! The only issue is with "cuál". I don't believe it takes the accent because it is not a question word in this case. To see this you need to also correct the English: "Can you tell me **what the aim of this photo is**? - gintar77, Aug 18, 2011

I want to thank everybody for putting pictures in the daily threads. I am collecting the funniest pictures, keeping them for my students in Nicaragua with the objective to make them express themselves in English. I’m sure these funny pictures will help them to overcome their shyness in speaking English.

Quiero agradecer a todos por poner imágenes en los hilos diarios porque estoy juntando las imágenes más graciosas, guardándolas para mis estudiantes en Nicaragua con el objetivo de hacer que se expresen en inglés. Estoy segura de que estas imágenes graciosas les ayudarán a superar su timidez para hablar.

Muchas personas no parecen ignorar tener en cuenta evidencia objetiva cuando hacen decisiones importantes con respecto a su salud, y, por eso, su salud no es tan buena como podría ser.

Many people appear to ignore objective evidence when they make important decisions regarding their health, and, because of this, their health is not a good as it could be.

Deanski, I believe the subjunctive is not required here. You can use both with subtle changes in meaning. Using the subjunctive expresses more doubt. I could be wrong though. - gintar77, Aug 18, 2011

¡Ahora solamente tengo un objetivo en mi vida; tener bastante dinero para mi jubilación! Con esta economía mala es difícil tener esperanza para el futuro, pero estoy positiva acerca de las posibilidades para los Estados Unidos. cool smile Right now I only have one objective in my life, to have enough money for my retirement! With this bad economy it is difficult to have hope for the future but I am positive about the posibilities for the United States.
