In English, I know it is not highly looked upon when sentences start with the word "but", yet is it alright in Spanish?

Is this sentence ok? = Pero, fue una sorpresa muy divertida.

Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cool smile

In English, and most likely in Spanish, you need to state what the but is refering to. Therefore, in using good grammer it usually makes the most sense to include what it is refering to in the same sentence. I don't beleive it is flat outright wrong to use it at the beginning of a sentence, but I would make darn sure that the sentence before is a complete sentence, and that it makes sence to begin a new sentence, which is also a complete sentence, in refering to the last one.

I think you mean, "sense," not "sence." Also, you mispelled "sentence," but I think that was a typo, since the next one is right. - MrSillyInc, Aug 18, 2011
lol thank goodness my grammer is better then my spelling! Somehow, a university student who gets A's on academic papers...can't spell worth beans :S - toothpastechica, Aug 18, 2011

you spelled "believe" wrong too, lol :) - minimekayla, Aug 18, 2011
and also, I think you're supposed to say "flat out wrong" not outright. it just sounds bad to me but then again, I could be wrong. - minimekayla, Aug 18, 2011
Ok thank you. I was just starting the sentence with but because to add it to the sentence before would create too long of a sentence resulting in a run on. So thanks. - kanani142, Aug 18, 2011

I agree with Toothpastech. The usage is the same in Spanish as in English.
