Este es de un articulo en un actual periódico que se trata del divorcio.

Älgunos de tus amigos ****se irán del lado de tu ex****, pero habrá otras amistades inesperadas que se convertirán en tu mayor apoyo.

I translated this as: some of your friends will move away from your husband but there will be some unexpected friendships which will become your major support. But it doesn't make sense in the context. It should mean that some of your friends will leave you for your husband's side. Is this a misprint or am I missing something.

I think it means the opposite. - lorenzo9, Aug 17, 2011

The problem is not the verb, but "del lado de", which means "on the side of".

del lado de.

1. loc. prepos. A favor de, de acuerdo con.

This phrase is more common with verbs like "ponerse" or "pasarse".

Will leave (you) from your ex-husband's side. I think it is talking about friends he brought into the relationship/"his" friends will leave you and stay with him.

Much simpler would be "they will side with him". - samdie, Aug 17, 2011
