No es para / es para

Question

No es para tanto = it's not that bad (seems to be an idiom)

But I also see a guy on Wordreference say

Es para llorar = It's awful (it's enough to make me cry?) and then No es para tanto = it's not that bad.

So can "Es para / no es para" be used with a lot of different verbs or just the

No es para tanto = it's not that bad

and

Es para (bad inf to indicate something is bad)

I wonder, Es para morir. = it sucks?

Hi =)

you can also say "no es para tanto" for positive things, eg: when sb. is good at sth. and he thinks he's the best (he's full of himself), but then you say "no es para tanto = your are not that good (I don't know an expressiona in english)

But what about "es para llorar" any other verbs work like that? Does "es para morir" work too and it's bad (what about Ella es para morir - that doesn't mean she is too die for right? good or bad? Gracias. - jeezzle, Aug 16, 2011

"Es para llorar/morir // es terrible/horrible = It's awful (it's enough to make me cry?) / It sucks" : correct

"No es para tanto = it's not that bad" : correct

in other context "no es para tanto = you're not that good" also correct or eg: if sth. is funny: "es para morirse/llorar de risa = to laugh until one cries" And then: "It's not that funny = no es tan divertido"

regarding that: Ella es para morir... sorry, I don't understand it

Yeah I've heard 'para morir' used by a native speaker decribing a girl in a swimsuit (smiley) so it's definitely used.

"It's not that big of a deal"... this would work in both situations.
