It is like "Thanks God that..." (but without "God" in it) or "It's a good job that..."

The outdoor wedding was beautiful. Good thing (that) it didn't rain!

more context would be helpful....but im assuming something along the lines of:

the lesser of two evils,

less bad than (whatever the alturnative is)
