Talking about accents?

ío - the i is well pronounced, the o is tagged on

ió - the i is slurred into the o, making it sound more like "-yo"

io would be a diphthong. (the combination of vowels are in the same syllable)

dio (one syllable word with strong vowel "o" stressed)

3rd person, singular of Dar in preterite tense of indicative mood..he gave

Both ío and íó are broken diphthongs. (two separate syllables)

The accent tell you which syllable gets stressed.

o

1st person, singular of reír in present tense of indicative mood....I laugh

ri ó

3rd person, singular of reír in preterite tense of indicative mood....he laughed

frío=cold salió=he left abrio=I open (diphthong)

frí o

sa li ó

a brio (stress on the strong vowel "o")

ío = EE-oh

ió = ee-OH or, basically, YOH

I had to separate the Y O H with spaces because it won't let me put 3 letters together sometimes as all caps. - webdunce, Aug 14, 2011
No need for that! :D (PS: I hope you don't mind that I edited your post) - SonrisaDelSol, Aug 14, 2011
I don't mind, but seriously it wouldn't let me submit the post with the Y O H...kept informing me I was yelling at folks. :) - webdunce, Aug 15, 2011

Well, it doesn't appear to be Spanish. I know that "io" mean "I" in Italian, though.
