This has gotten really ugly. Ponerse feo - to turn ugly

But I also heard:

¿Se ha puesto lo peor? - I wonder if that is "Has this taken a turn for the worst?"

I came across this the other day and ponerse can be used to mean putting on a certain look - in the one I found though it was referring to an actual facial expression but I guess it could refer to a situation looking ugly smile

I know "se ha puesto peor" means "he/she/it has gotten worse". I know "lo peor" means "the worst". Perhaps "Has the worst happened?
