Hola,

Could you please explain the difference between alphabetic pronunciations of Spain and other Spanish speaking countries? Can you give examples with transliterations in English?

Thanks!

There are differences even between regions of the same country so that makes this difficult. A noticeable example though is the difference in pronunciation of the "y" sound (y or ll in the Spanish alphabet) between Argentina and the other Spanish speaking countries. Argentinians pronounce it as "sh" rather than like our English "y" as other countries do (me shamo vs. me yahmo is the difference when saying me llamo).

Thanks for your quick response. I just browsed the reference section and now understand how difficult it is to answer my question. Okay, let's say I want to learn Spain's pronunciation of Spanish. How do I pronounce the 'c', 'll', 'z', and 's'? - lotstolearn, Aug 14, 2011
