When should I use "torcer" and when "doblar" talking about directions?

As I know both have the same meaning "to turn". But at the same time I don't understand where and when to use each one. Thanks in advance, amigos smile

HI, Princess.

I have never heard "torcer" (to twist) used in giving directions. I usually hear "girar" or "doblar."

"Sigue recto y dobla a la direcha en la esquina." (Continue straight and turn to the right at the corner)

Edit: I am talking only about my experiences in L.A. (Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia)

I guess both mean the same and usage in each country will prevail, when talking about driving or walking.

Thanks, chileno! :) And which one is in spain? I should use "torcer" when walinh and "doblar" when driving? - PrincessMariam, Aug 13, 2011
According to Lazarus, and I believe he is from Spain, he uses "torcer". I don't know about the rest of Spaniards though... :-D - chileno, Aug 13, 2011

For directions, I would say both are equivalent (I personally don't use "doblar" much, though).

Really? Here in L.A. I hear "doblar" and not "torcer." Interesting. - --Mariana--, Aug 13, 2011
I've heard both in Spain, but "torcer" seems more common in my home town (which is a city). - lazarus1907, Aug 13, 2011
Thank you, lazarus! :) - PrincessMariam, Aug 13, 2011
