Very sad...Please wear a helmet!
This is just a reminder to always wear your helmet when riding your motorcycle, moped, all terrain vehicle or bicycle!
A beautiful 17 year old from my home town was killed when she lost control of her moped last night.
Just a month ago the 17 year old son of a colleague was killed when he lost control of his all terrain vehicle.
Neither one was wearing a helmet.
And, parents, when your babies and toddlers are in the bike trailer, get a helmet on them!
Very coincidentally, my husband and I were on a lengthy bicycle ride today, and - you guessed it - I fell. Since I was wearing my helmet, I only have a baseball-sized shiner on my head and a broken wrist, plus the miscellaneous souvenir scrapes, etc.
For those of you who were born to be wild and like to feel the wind whistin' through your hair - well, lots of us in helmets were born to be wild, too! Show your wild side by wearing crazy underwear or something...

You know what doctors call motorcyclists that don't wear helmets? Organ donors.
A friend of mine lived wild all his life. He raced motorcycles profecionally, always wore a helmet. He got killed by a truck while riding a bicycle. He was 26. Enjoy life, accidents happen very fast and without any reason.
I guess I will be in the minority on this, but I think bicycle helmets are ridiculous. When I was a kid I practically lived on my bike, as did every other kid I knew. We rode them hard, we rode them fast. We crashed them. We broke arms and legs and skinned knees.
I'm talking thousands...no...tens of thousands of "kid hours" riding bikes. And every last one of us lived to adulthood with no serious bike injury that left lasting damage that would have been saved by a helmet.
Yes, I agree, a helmet could potentially save a life under just the right circumstances. But those circumstances would be a freak accident.
We could require every swimmer to wear a flotation device.
That would save lives too, no doubt. But that, like bicycle helmet laws, would be needless intervention in the lives of free citizens.
Risk is part of life. You take a risk of some kind every time you do anything at all, from getting out of bed to turning on a lamp. One must consider the risk and the likelihood of injury, and weight that against the cost of using a safety device of some kind. And then make the decision.
My decision is this: I'm 52 years old and have never had a bicycle helmet on my beautiful bald head. And I never will.

I never wore a cycle helmet until I lived in London for a while. The traffic there was horrendous and some of the drivers are complete idiots. I had a couple of near misses before I decided it really did make sense to wear a helmet.
Now I have this nagging feeling that the day I go out without my helmet is the day some moron isn't looking at the roundabout and knocks me off. I also wear reflective clothing and use lights, if some idiot gets me off my bike they are not going to have any excuses.
