Red wine? ¿Sí? - SonrisaDelSol, Aug 12, 2011
In English, it's dyed, stained, deep-coloured. A close synonym of these words is "tinted." I think of "vino tinto" as a "darkly tinted" wine. - MrSillyInc, Aug 13, 2011

I understand what Lazarus is saying that if in a bar one would ask for a vino tinto,

tinto is red when it refers to wine . Rojo refers to the colour of my face when I

actually ask for something in Spanish.

red face

I asked my friend from Argentina "why don't you call red wine vino rojo?" After laughing at me, she told me, "well, red wine in Spanish is vino tinto, never vino rojo. Vino rojo sounds silly". I took her word for it, so vino tinto it is.

It doesn't look good for an Admin to make "guesses" and get them wrong. - Destroyed99, Feb 16, 2012
