I agree with Sonrisa, I tried it once and it was a complete mess. If a system is introduced where only members who have certain number of learning and reputation points can use the chart room, then it could be an effective learning tool. I mean a member who has, let's say, 25K learning points and not less than 3K reputations is definitely serious about learning Spanish and doesn't use the chat room as a pickup point.

The problem with that is that the key to the chatroom is the native speakers. The natives that don't want to make / use a forum account. They are like the other side of the coin that we are on, we are the "foreros" and they are the...... well something - jeezzle, Aug 11, 2011

I think the chatroom was / is great. Lots of interesting members in there and DebtheMod usually kept it under control, the language would switch from Spanish to English and mix it up, sometimes the conversations were wild but not always. A new service should be investigated if Meebo is closing so that the chat can continue.

Yes, at times when I go into the chat room there are obnoxious people. If there are serious people in there as well I just block the problem chatters. On the whole though I find great people there and I have fun practicing my Spanish. I hope something will take Meebo's place.

I have spent many hours there, probably hundreds of hours at the beginning of my learning experience, it helped me a lot. Perhaps if we put our heads together we could find a new site to make a chatroom and that site can be the Spanishdict chatroon. - jeezzle, Aug 11, 2011

To be 100% honest, that doesn't surprise me.

I remember going in once, and the people in there were most definitely not talking about Spanish...I don't know where the moderators were, but it was out of control! It's a shame that something that would be a good tool was so misused.

Maybe they are planning some other type of chat system?
