It is a word used, at least in New Mexico, for "roof gutter" and, I am not referring to "canaleta".

SonrisaDel Sol is right.

El canalón de lluvia / canaleta / canal / canalón.

I would use the first one in your case because "canelón" alone can also mean the gutter on the side of a street or even a storm drain.

A few others that may come close:

canal de tejado, canal del techo para las lluvias, canal para las lluvias, canal de desagüe del tejado

But these are all phrases or descriptions... I vote for canalón along with Sonrisa!
