translation for "chamoco"
A lady at work today described her kids as being "chamoco". They were climbing all over the furniture and acting crazy, silly, childish, etc. I said, "los niños son chistosos." and she said "son chamocos". I tried to clarify but still wasn't able to understand exactly what chamoco means. I can't find it in any dictionaries. Has anyone heard this word before? What would be a good translation for it? It's probably chamaco. It's slang for niño or muchacho but it can be used to mean brat.
Right, Mexican slang and it's not necessarily derogatory, it depends how you say it. Mucosos, for example ("snots" or unkempt kids) is much worse!
She probably said chamaco. It means kid, but mostly mexicans say it. It is not a verb, it is a noun.
Chamaco is most definately 'kid' in mexican spanish....a less formal word than niño (child), quite often its used in reference to "kids being kids", playful, running around, getting into trouble, being silly etc.....¡ayy los chamacos!
Oh my, I hope she wasn't calling them brats or devils! I think she just meant kids. She shrugged her shoulders when she said it. Chamacos serán chamacos, sí?

try "chamucos" which means "devils". Maybe?
