Meaning of "nada más" in this context

Los mismos trabajadores del local fueron los que avisaron a los bomberos nada más detectar la nube de humo e inmediatamente fueron movilizados todos los medios disponibles

Those very workers of the local bar were the ones who warned the firemen (I don't understand this nada más part) detecting the cloud of smoke and immediately they movilized all resources available

I'm not too sure about the bold part.

Thanks for the help.

I think it's missing a que.

I'd say "nada más" in this context means "immediately thereafter" (no more than a second).

....avisaron a los bomberos nada más detectar la nube de humo e inmediatamente.....

...advised the firefighters right after detecting the cloud of smoke and immediately.....

I think it means as soon as they detected the smoke cloud.

But why is it 'detectar' and not 'detectaron'?

Or could 'detectar' here be a noun? As soon as detecting or noticing the smoke cloud? - SpanishPal, Aug 9, 2011
