Once I read this in one topic. And then asked a native speaker. He didn't know :( Maybe someone knows?

I asked my daughter this recently because I had seen "Ay Caramba" in a book and the definition in the dictionary was "damn it" which certainly did not seem to fit the way it was used in the book. She said it is like the English expression, "For heaven's sake" or "goodness gracious".
