Post-it notes

Post-it notes

I am translating a curriculum which will go to many places in latin america, so I am wondering this....what do you (native speakers) call post-it notes?? Is there a universal term? Or better yet is there a word to discribe page divider tabs??? (like to mark out sections to read before hand) I am looking for something universal, as I know in Mexico I could just say post-its and be understood, but in the countries that I am not familiar with, I don't know if post-it or similar style tabs are called the same thing universally.

Hola, Toothpaste!

Post-Its are basically sticky notes, right? How about nota adhesiva or papelitos pegajosos?

Here are the Google Image results for "nota adhesiva".

There is this website. When you search for "Post It", you get results for "Post Its -- notas adhesivas". smile

That website is very interesting -- you might want to check it out! grin

These little strips are called "banderitas adhesivas".

yeah i might use that...i was more thinking like....the tabs you would use to mark pages of a textbook when you go to school then actual post-its, that was just the closest way i could think to discribe it. - toothpastechica, Aug 8, 2011

It would be like asking what do you call Coca-Cola in other countries.

In the USA Coca-Cola is usually called Coke. When I asked for Coke in México, my Mexican companions (guides and teachers etc.) always corrected me as if it were part of my language lesson, "Coca". Each time I had a flash of, "hey, Coke is from MY country and we call it Coke". Then I realized that I'm not that kind of person, and remembered where I was grin Never got it right though red face :r:

"La etiqueta pegajosa " can mean a label that you write on and stick to something.

"El marcapáginas" means "bookmark", you use it to help you return to the pages you would like to read later.

I hope this helps grin

Post-it is a trademark belonging to 3M, so it is not translated. It would be like asking what do you call Coca-Cola in other countries.

I have just had a thought, why not find a Spanish website that sells stationery and find the items you want the names for?
