translate peanuts or nuts into english

Question

In English get that peanuts are a kind of nut, so by using 'nuts', 'peanuts' are included. However, in Spanish 'nueces' does not necessary include 'peanuts'. What's the inclusive terms that includes all types of nuts in Spanish?

"Nuez" refers not only to the walnut, but to any similar fruit, generally called nuts. "Frutos secos" includes both nuts and dried fruit. I can't think of any other term right now.

"Frutos secos" is common in Santiago espeicially at the grocery store or other places nuts are sold. - tc84, Aug 8, 2011

I would just say nueces...and if you need to include peanuts say "y maní, or y cacahautes"

The problem is that peanuts are not actually nuts, they are legumes in Spanish legumbres. In English we often include peanuts in the broad term "nuts" just to make it easy. Perhaps you can do the same in Spanish.

Since nuts are really seeds, I suppose you could use semilla as an all-inclusive term, but this would be very vague and uncommon.

This term could work during a horticultural discussion, but not for buying nuts in a market.
