why would someone name their dog delgado?

I saw a movie called Beverly Hills Chiuahua, and the main character, Chloe, meets another dog named Delgado. (If it helps, they take a trip ti Mexico) I was wondering why his name was delgado, and what it ment. (Again if it helps, Delgado is a german shepard.)
