What does de verb+s mean. Ellos de compras: They are buying?

I was getting confused because I thought de compras would be about/of you buying(informal)

Is this the same as saying comprando?

So if this means they are out buying. How is buying a noun? Sorry just a little confused - ionisme, Aug 6, 2011
Because compra is the noun purchase / shopping, to be "ir de compras" or "estar de compras" - to go shopping or to be out shopping, "de compras" = shopping, Estoy (I am) de compras - shopping / out shopping. Voy (I am going) de compras (shopping) - jeezzle, Aug 6, 2011

"Comprar" = to buy, but "ir de compras" = to go shopping. - gintar77, Aug 14, 2011
Haha thank you so much. I felt like an idiot reading that. So it's to go of shopping? - ionisme, Aug 14, 2011
