When you want to say a light is "turned on" you use encendido. Would you also use that word to refer to other appliances being "on," such as radios, TVs, etc.?

Poner, encender, and prender are interchangeable as far as I know and used to mean "to turn on" la luz, televisión, radio, etc. Use differs based on area though. Here in Chile, we only use prender but in Spain I believe prender is not often used and when it is, it usually refers to an actual fire.
*When talking about computers, use "poner en marcha" la computadora rather than poner la computadora as a way of saying "to start/turn on the computer".
Well, you can say "prender". "encender" or "poner". But "poner" is not very common, it's a regional use, like "pon la tv para ver las noticias" ("turn on the tv to watch the news").
Prenda is what I would use......
Prenda la luz por favor, prenda el tele, etc......

sidenote: When I hear encendido i think of something being lit up or lit on fire....
encienda el tele sounds like me like light up the television as in with a match or flame...it may be correct, and might be just a regional thing that it sounds a little bit odd to me. I've heard encienda la luz for the lights occasionaly, but not usually or other applances or electronics
But this might just be in the areas that I have been.
