Latin America Challenge 5

Question

As in many other parts of the world, only Latin American men could vote in elections well into the 20th century, and often only property-owning men or men who could pass a literacy test.

Today's challenge: Four Latin American countries gave women the right to vote before World War II. Which four countries were they?

Don't look this up - use your knowledge of the region and a little logic to figure it out! Every reasonable post gets at least one vote.

The following countries gave women the right to vote before the start of World War II:

• Ecuador 1929
• Brazil 1932
• Uruguay 1932
• Cuba 1934

The list of countries that did not grant women the vote until the '50's or 60's is also interesting:

• Haiti 1950
• Bolivia 1952
• Mexico 1953
• Honduras 1955
• Nicaragua 1955
• Peru 1955
• Colombia 1957
• Paraguay 1961

The war is generally accepted to have begun on 1 September 1939, so you're asking before this date, or are you asking for the accepted date when the war ended? Either way, here goes:

Chile

Brazil

and Cuba?

The last one I am guessing on account of the activism during the 1930s that took place on the island....

Hmmm...in 1920 we adopted the 19th Amendment in the U.S., but I'll have to guess with Latin American countries:
