Do se usa para presente, did para pasado para construir una pregunta.
Do you speak English? (hablas....)
Did you speak English yesterday? (hablaste...)

to do is in the present or future tense while did as in I did she did he did or it did is in the past tense. past tense is much more simple in the english language than en el español.
