empuñar definition
I noticed a little typo in the Dictionary definition of empuñar here on spanishdict.com (the English translation). Grip with the fist, not gripe with the fist... although I often feel like griping with my fists, if I get frustrated enough (OK that's a joke prompted by the play on words, I would never get frustrated in that way).

I think you can 'empuñar' a sword etc as well, as in 'take up' or 'brandish' ![]()

To grasp the hilt firmly.
I think grip is closer to take/hold.
Sometimes when I want to learn a word, I do a google search on the word and look at the pictures.
I won't post them here, but here are a list of items associated with "empuñar."
Tennis racket Fishing pole Oar Gun Sword
Good catch, Jeremias, thanks, I have just reported it![]()
