Una pareja de casados estaba celebrando su 60º aniversario de boda.

Most of the sentences I use for my learning do not include the words for any of the numbers. I am not sure what word to use, either sesenta or sexagésimo for the above sentence. Which is correct, por favor?

Gracias

I am going to tentatively tell you sesenta. I remember reading that ordinal numbers are not commonly used after 10. Some examples of this that I know to be true are la Calle Dieciséis (Sixteenth Street) and el siglo diecinueve (19th century).

I agree. "Aniversario sesenta." - CalvoViejo, Jul 30, 2011

I agree that it can be said both ways in general, but just to be clear, the above sentence can only be read as sexagésimo aniversario. The supersript "o" indicates that it is an ordinal number.

sexagésimo aniversario .... correct

But as Bafalck has said, after 10 it´s commonly expressed with just the number.

But either way is correct.

My dictionaries don't find it without "a". - CalvoViejo, Jul 30, 2011
I don't think that is correct, Julian. It does have the "a". - gintar77, Jul 30, 2011
Gracias Julian...cuz my next question was going to be why even have the spanish word if you can't use it{smile}. - foxluv, Jul 30, 2011
I stand corrected. It just goes to show that all ones life one can speak incorrectly occasionally - 005faa61, Jul 30, 2011
