days of the week-Capitalization

days of the week-Capitalization

I am confused! I decided to read an article about Capitalization (Spanish) and it stated that days of the week and months of the year use lower-case letters. I grew up in Puerto Rico and we were always told that they used upper-case letters. So, I have always, and I mean always use Martes, or Diciembre when translating documents instead of using lower-case letters.

Am I wrong?

Hola!

Yes, days of the week and months aren't capitalized. That's funny how you grew up learning that they were...ohh

It looks a little funny at first, especially if you're a native English speaker, but that's just one way Spanish greatly differs from English!!

Hoy es jueves. Today is Thursday.

En enero, fuiste a México. In January, you went to Mexico.

yeah, this rule is killing me. I just spoke to two other native Spanish speakers who were also thought the same and were very surprise when I sent them the article. - kclu787, Jul 28, 2011
Puerto Rico is territory of the US, so maybe that's why you learned that they were capitalized! - SonrisaDelSol, Jul 28, 2011

Possibly because you grew up in Puerto Rico...which is american ruled, the English standards may have been taught to elimite confusion between Puerto Rico and the rest of the United States.
