What about " La Piñata" ?

Question

O.k. for starters I couldn't get a "ñ " in the title. Some neighbors are going to have a party for their young ones and were talking about piñatas. Does anyone know the origin of these fun little things you hit with a stick? ( The piñatas , not the young ones.)

The term was borrowed from Italian pignatte (pine cone). While the whole idea was introduced in Europe around the 14th century from China, it seems that the Mayans had a similar idea, so it became a strong tradition in Mexico.
