Latin America Challenge 2

Latin America Challenge 2

11
votes

Most of the definitions of "Latin America" include the 12 countries and one overseas region of France on the continent of South America.

Today's challenge: List the countries and region.

Don't look up the countries or peak at other answers - see how many you already know! Every reasonable attempt will receive at least one vote.

Here's a map to help you:

From the answers, I was not clear enough with my question. I want the 12 countries and region of the continent of SOuth America only. - LaBurra, Jul 27, 2011

I lived there, so is that cheating?

Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana.

Then there are the little disputed islands like the Falklands, South Georgia, etc., which may or may not be British possessions, depending on which side you're on.

yep a duspute Kevin - but they would be part of Argentina. - ian-hill, Jul 27, 2011
Yes, so they are either part of Argentina or a second overseas possession of a European nation not mentioned in the original post. - KevinB, Jul 27, 2011

Okay- South America, without looking at the other answers- so I can't look at the map either-

Paises de América del Sur

Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Perú, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, Guayana Francesa, y Brasil.

That seems to be the number you asked for. I think the last 4 are the non-Spanish speaking countries (I believe English, Dutch, French (still technically part of France), and Portuguese respectively).

Sorry, I couldn't do the languages in Spanish, because I have no idea how to say Dutch in Spanish- I will have to look that up and learn it. :-) - Stadt, Jul 27, 2011
Looks like it is "neerlandés". Now I will try to remember it. - Stadt, Jul 27, 2011
You got them all! Outstanding! - LaBurra, Jul 28, 2011
I used to study political geography quite a bit- I could have done all the capitals as well, but again I would not be sure of the Spanish. I haven't studied geography in a while though, so I am not as sure of the newer countries. - Stadt, Jul 28, 2011

I'm terrible at geography but I'll give it a try.

Bolivia, Venezuela Columbia, Chile, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay,

That's all I got.

After I went to bed last night I thought of Argentina.

That's part of why I'm doing these "challenges" - to help us learn about the geography, history & culture that we missed in school! Thanks for trying. - LaBurra, Jul 28, 2011

I think she wanted just South America, even though the title says Latin America. - KevinB, Jul 27, 2011
Nice try. You have a few that aren't in South America. - LaBurra, Jul 28, 2011
