"catedrático"

Question

I'd like to clearly grasp some academic terms that are equivalent between Spanish and English.

I want to be sure that profesor/a is a general term for "teacher" whereas catedrático/a means what would be, in the UK a Professor of ...an academic subject. I presume the phrase La Catedrática is correct for a woman?

This brings me to "lecturer". In a UK university a young university teacher starts out as a lecturer and if successful ends up being a Professor of their subject.

- It seems to me that in Spanish a "lecturer" is also una profesora . Is the best way to make this term more precise to say una profesora de Universidad/de colegio etc to distinguish or is there a better way of denoting "lecturer"?

This is the definition wr supplies and I certainly agree with this.

Si hablamos generalmente de un profesor, estamos pensando en un profesor de colegio, es decir, yo por ejemplo soy profesora. (colegios, institutos, escuela primaria)

Lecturer puede ser una persona que da una conferencia, eso puede ser un ponente o conferenciante.

Catedrático es un profesor universitario con titulación para ello.

Muy bien Heidita, pero, una pregunta, para "lecturer" me parece que seria mejor a decir Ella es una profesora de Universidad.

¿Va bien o no?
