te tocó perder - it is your turn to lose or it was your turn to lose? I got confused when I heard tocar in the past tense.

Gracias

Te tocó perder can mean both: Is your turn to lose and It was your turn to lose.

Example 1 (present).

Jack: Es tu turno. (It is you turn)

Gintar: ¿Me tocó perder?. (is my turn to lose?)

Jack: No. (No)

Gintar: Entonces, ganaré (then, i will win)

Example 2 (past).

Jack: Tu perdiste. (You lose)

Gintar: Eso fue por que me tocó perder. (that is because it was my turn to lose)

However, you mustn't complicate, only use it for past tense (more grammatically correct).

En el primer ejemplo ¿no se puede decir "¿Me toca perder?"? - gintar77, Jul 25, 2011
Si, perfectamente, sobre todo para los no nativos. - Krassa, Jul 25, 2011

Thank you Krassa! I had only heard this in present tense form and when I heard it said correctly I was confused. I really appreciate the example.

Not in Spain but this is true in other countries, they use the past tense to mean present, weird, jeje

It is past tense in English, too. It was your turn to lose.
