I need to know how to say play in the past tense. In english you would say played but how does played translate in spanish

I think you might be talking about the indicative mood, ¿sí?

Since there are two ways to express the past tense in Spanish, that depends on whether you are using the preterit or imperfect. Both are shown below.

Here are the "past perfect" conjugations.

Había jugado: "I had played"

Habías jugado: "You (familiar) had played"

Había jugado: can also mean..."He/she/it/you (formal) had played"

Habíamos jugado: We had played

Habíais jugado: You plural (Spain) had played

Habían jugado: They/you all had played

may also use the perfect tense...I have played = he jugado
