Skype chat last night..please do not rob me again!

What a mess, I got attacked last nightsnake

Ok, so these guys, after spending my free time with them, jeeeeeez, they tried to rob me, lovely hit me and threw me down, Chris, her boyfriend, was the bad guy, then Sandy was suddenly another girlfriend.....what a mess!

Fortunately the cop Frankie stepped in and the lawyer Rikko, pufff, they seem to solve some of the mess. After all I thought I had witnesses, well, think again, snake omg, Swampy, the guy with the beard, omg, he just said: "No vi nada, soy ciego" big surprise

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, trust me, if swampy who not only never dared to talk at all, never even wished to participate on the daily threads, we convinced him to do too, well, if he can do an improvised situation....hey, YOU can do it toowink (Quentin, that goes for you !! raspberry)

Swampy, I normally choose a "winner" of the night...well, you were the superstar!

Some of the usual suspects have improved such a lot that it is amazing. Lovely has no problem with pronunciation at all, neither have Frankie, Rikko , Sandy or even Gary , Fred and Jason, good job on your script with Bandit grin (and this has not always been the same, lovely was afraid to participate, sandy could not and dared not say a word..)

Not a problem for Julian either, who has his own personal trainer...hmmmraspberry, so his English is getting better and better, he also had a script with Chris and Gary, but had to leave us suddenly, such a shame, he would have made a great thief toowink

Stadt is working with Frankie on his r, the only problem he has...so has swampy, the r is a serious problem but hey, what foreigner can do the English r at first? Just keep on tryingwink

Chris is probably one of the guys who has improved most, I heard him once like three or four months ago and gave up on him...omg, I thought, this guy is never going to learn Spanish, impossible to improve THAT pronunciation! confused But then he started to give it some serious work, we were lucky to get frankie into the group who is working with people....and see? He can actually come in cold in an intermediate chatwink His pronunciation still sucks, hmmm, some, jeje, but he can be understood perfectly and he certainly has not problem to make his point and bring over his ideas.

Bandit was new to the chat and so was Nicole.

Bandit has a lot of problems with her vowels, but I must admit, I do admire her persistence, looks like another Chris to me, tell you the truth, and you will get there, trust mewink You will always be on my chats from now on if you wishgrin I really like people who work and try.

Nicole had a lot of problems with her sound...she was told to get a headset, I am always insisting, but people seem to think this is just a whim. Well, she could not be heard at all, and let's not talk about the background noise...pufff. So after practising with Sandy a nice script, I could not offer a single correction because we could simply not hear her.

Please remember,

there is no way at all you can participate in a group chat unless you have a headset

that means earphones with an incorporated mic, I said headphones yesterday and was misunderstood, so I am being very clear on this:

Headset or headphones means: Earphones with incorporated mic, not an open mic with earplugs, no sire bobwink

Ok, I hope to be seeing new faces, that is hear new voices next timewink

Oh, Ianta wanted in to listen, I am sorry, we cannot hold more than 12 people, there were 15 this time, too many, skype is just not up to it, so I could not admit anybody else.

Thanks for the compliment Heidi, I really have tried to improve, not only my Spanish pronunciation, but the command of the language itself. I am really happy to hear that it is paying off, but of course, a huge thanks to you and Frank for your help along the way!!

The organized chats were funny to listen to, but I love the spontaneous (cold) chats - they are always bound to produce a lot of laughs, and they are great because you have to think of Spanish sentences on the spur of the moment.

Of course, everyone on the chat did really well, and it is a great bunch of people. You can see that everyone is trying so hard to improve, and everyone is having a great time.

But, as I said on the International Café, the real star of the night, as always, is Heidi. The fact that she takes her time to work with everyone, help with peoples Spanish (and English), is just remarkable to me. (Of course, I think that she has a really good time during the chats too!! smile )

Thanks again Heidi!!

It was fun, although clearly I need to work on my ability to generate Spanish at speaking speed, instead of just leisurely writing sentences. More study to rapidly generating short basic sentences, and less study of more complex grammar points just has never seemed as interesting, but clearly is necessary.

Stadt is working with Frankie on his r, the only problem he has

I would once again like to thank Frank, because, if you remember, I got assigned to him because everything was off. So if I am down to just the r's (and rr's) he has worked wonders. We just need to figure out how to get me to that last, and I will practice the tongue placement you explained last night.

Thanks for a great time!!!

And your acting skills were amazing- you set a wonderful scenario.

I thought I would leave for the weekend but my schedule was cancelled and I stayed home. So I thought I could give it a try to ask you if I could participate by listening.

I'd like to thank Heidi for trying to get me in. grin

Heidita do you have to wait for an invite, or just show up on skype at 11:30 Spanish time?

If I can stay awake I would love to join you all some time grin

Oh well late as usual, I only now see this post. What a fun night that was and I have to agree that Swampy's comment was the winner of the night. I can't even think fast enough in English for those adlib situations and what he did outshined us all. Way to go Swampy! Thanks again Heidita! I've posted a specific notice about the use of proper headsets here.

Wow! What a great chat last night. I thought everybody had fun and I was so glad to be a part of it. Thank you to my partner for sticking with me (despite being dropped) jejejeje....Bandit I appreciate your tenacity and determination. I want to say I was laughing my backside off at Gary, Julián, and I believe Chris doing their skit...for some reason I believe Lovely was a part as well...regardless, it was great. I would like to echo Heidi's star of the night...swampy keep up the great work!! Abrazos a todos wink

I'm sorry I couldn't have been more help Heidita. I wanted to provide an accurate description of the robbers but being blind just popped out. It was a great chat and I'll continue to practice. Although my wife said today, " no more trilling practice before 10am."

bandit's thoughts from the 7/23/11 Skype chat

Hedita your words on this post means a great deal to me!

The above link will share some of my thoughts about last nights chat. If any member hasn't seen my thoughts yet, it's not too long.

Darn, I missed Hedita getting robbed! If I continue to persist, work, and try I'll be there! Or whenever I can!

Only somewhat on-topic but how would I know what level I am? Is there something standardised?

Clarification Should I want to be involved in the future then I would need to know which level I best fit in with - is there something that SpanishDict uses to decide this when Heidita runs these Skype events?

That would be a great question to put in the forum Mistermouse!! - pacofinkler, Jul 24, 2011

or my basic rule say certain things only= beginner, sustain real conversation= intermediate, sustain complicated (conceptual) conversation=advanced, get all the nuances and jokes= fluent. - Stadt, Jul 24, 2011
So, the answer is no? - mistermouse, Jul 24, 2011
She has let me in at the barely able to speak level. She can decide where she puts you. - Stadt, Jul 24, 2011
Okay, good to know! - mistermouse, Jul 24, 2011
well, I guess my advice: forget about it;) - 00494d19, Jul 24, 2011
and skype chats have nothing to do with the forum...so you can just forget about them;) - 00494d19, Jul 24, 2011
hmm? what do you mean? - mistermouse, Jul 25, 2011
where I come from, "you can just forget about that" has a clear nuance of "That would mean doing you a favour, and there´s no way that´s going to happen." Is that what you meant? - mistermouse, Jul 25, 2011
You never replied to this Heidita. I don't think that's very nice of you. - mistermouse, Jul 27, 2011

Wow, sounds like a lot of fun. I saw the announcement for it too late and I think I would have been too nervous to try it. Next time I will!
