Wow Dogwood! 25k! What a great accomplishment. And even more important is the impact you have made on all of us here with your stories of your trip to Mexico. Thank you for sharing those things that come from your heart. It is great to see the study of language bear such great fruit and I know it does for many of our people here. Keep up the good work! I can't wait to hear more adventures.

Many thanks to everyone for the encouragement and help you’ve given me on this site. Though my Spanish skills are not what I’d like them to be, the language has given me opportunities I never thought I could experience.
I do not believe I would have had the tenacity to continue learning Spanish had it not been for the wonderful, supportive community on this site. There is no way I can thank you all for the help and encouragement you have given me. In your posts on this thread, many of you have mentioned my stories and adventures using the language. I hope you will realize you each have a part in whatever work I’m able to accomplish, since you all have contributed to my learning experience.
I appreciate all of you, even those who do not agree with me. As I said in another post, I believe diversity develops an even stronger support base on this site.
My opportunities to use the language continue to develop. I was asked to go back to Mexico next year, and I may soon become involved in a surgical center in Honduras. I’m also happy I was asked to participate as an interface with needy families during a school supply give-away this August 6. For those beginning the journey, this language will present you with an exciting world of opportunity and satisfaction. I’m not to the top of the mountain, but the view is worth the climb.
I’ll close here with a big thank you to everyone who has endured my ignorant and often incorrect posts. I’ll likely have many more. But I’ll get better!
This picture of me (before someone asks, I’m the one wearing sunglasses) was taken three weeks ago in Pico de Ora, a small agricultural community near Ocosingo, Chiapas, Mexico. We sponsored a free clinic there two years ago, and helped to finance the building of a community use facility there. I was the first “gringo” to take photos for the contributors back home. The locals insisted I ride that horse, even though it was not much larger than I am. The owner assures me no animals were harmed in the making of this picture.
