An example of a boondoggle in English is to have to go to Hawaii for a conference for work. It is free and a vacation and you won't get much accomplished. A boondoggle. Another example might be to skip work for the afternoon and play golf.

Boondoggle

Verb: Waste money or time on such projects. Noun: Work or activity that is wasteful or pointless but gives the appearance of having value.

Politically, often used to describe public works projects gone wrong, such as "Bridge to Nowhere."

A boondoggle is usually a plan gone badly awry. So in Spanish I would use " catástrof"

even though word refeference says this
