6 Days in Spain
Wow, a few days (well, now it's been a month) ago I got back from my trip to Spain, and I must say that I loved it!
I wish I could have stayed longer than 6 days though! It's true that immersion is the best way to learn a language...it was like I was absorbing the Spanish through my skin!
All of my teachers so far have been Cuban and all my Spanish speaking friends Mexican, Colombian, and Dominican, so it was interesting to hear the vosotros form being used! . It was also interesting to hear the thing where they pronounce their C's (before E and I) and Z's differently, and I quickly found myself doing it too haha. I actually like Spain accents more because it seems easier to understand to me (please don't take offense other countries!). I'm going back at the first chance I get
.
I wish I could have traveled to other parts of Spain, but my family didn't want to drive for however long to get to the other parts. The people were all really nice, especially in San Sebastian. It seemed to surprise them that the 15 year old was the only one in the family who knew a decent amount of Spanish. One of the waitresses seemed thrilled that I was learning Spanish. I It was funny because everyone would order in English and then the waitress would look at me and I'd repeat it all in Spanish.
This has been such an culture-filled year for me! For one thing, I moved to England from the U.S. 8 months ago. I actually learned a surprising amount of English hahaha. Plus all of my travels! I visited Scotland, Germany, and Spain. During the fall I shall be going to France and Belgium with my school. So far, every European country that I've been to has been great! I almost don't want to go back to the States in two years because Europe is so much closer to the UK!
I plan to go back and visit the rest of it though!

I think you may need to visit other parts of Spain. The Basque Region doesn't regard itself as Spanish. If you visit Andalucia,( and I love it!,) you will find it a little hard to understand the language, perhaps. The lette r's' doesn't seem to exist and most of the endings, which we struggle so to learn, are just dropped. Mysteriously the Andaluz people seem to understand what they mean all the same. Latin American Spanish, as spoken on thenews, seems, to me, remarkably clear.
I believe the Basque people might have a slight problem with you describing their land as "Spain", as would the Catalonians. Indeed, largely because of its geography, "Spain" is only a coverall term for several very different and independent cultures. Strangely enough, given your love of all things European, it's hardly surprising you should love the Basque Country as this region is about the closest "Spain" gets to being European in terms of its landscape and people. Next time, I suggest you travel around Spain - go south - and you'll find an even more beautiful country and even more amazing people and cultures that are simply steeped in histories that have left their marks - you'll find a land that is very difficult not to be head over heels with.
Happy travelling!
what part did you visit?
Lucky you! Visiting Spain has become a dream for me.
I wish I could have gone to other parts also! I wanted to go to Madrid, but the rest of my family didn't want to (because it was too far away). I did get to speak Spanish! I'm the only one in my family who knows anything more than gracias
. I had a nice conversation with one of our watiresses, you know just "Where are you from etc...
I actually like Spain accents more because it seems easier to understand to me (please don't take offense other countries!).
There should be no need for apologies. The use of the "seseo" blurs the distinction between some words and complicates learning to spell correctly. That is simple observable fact. Which sounds better is, of course, a matter of taste.
I wanted to go to Madrid,
Well, what can I say, I am not surprised, jeje![]()
Where did you stay in the BAsque land? Did you get to see San Sebastian?
One of my favourite cities in Spain![]()
Do tell us where you went...which parts did you like best and what did you think about the people? Did you get to speak Spanish?
Well done! I hope you get to make a lot more trips to Spain. It's my favourite country and it's so diverse and the people are so open.
OH of course! How could I forget to mention San Sebastian! It was great, we stayed on this hotel that was on top of a GIANT hill, but it was good because we'd go out and eat way too much, so we used up those unnecessary calories on the hill!
We traveled around the Basque Country :D
