Hi, these sentences were given for

"she rminds us never to give up."

I'm trying to break down the sentence to learn how to mak it myself and wondering if this is correct.

The part I don't get is darnos por vencidos... is this a sentence you have to learn off?

Ah ok! I have a new one :

"Nos recuerda que nunca nos debemos dar por vencidos"

In the first two sentences I do not see the need for the "a". If you look at the sample sentences in our dictionary when recordar is followed by an "a", it is the personal "a".

Also recordar is not one of the verbs that is normally followed by "a" when used with either an infinitive or an object as listed on this site.

I see nothing wrong with the 3rd sentence.

Yes, I think the correct meaning or usage of the phrase darse por vencido (rendirse) is something that you would have to learn from hearing or reading it.
