No entiendo la diferencia ... Que me ayuden por favor (of course). Usualmente digo:

Creí que era ....

¿Está bien dicho?

O debo decir:

Creía que fue ....

¿?

Gracias por su ayuda smile

You would use creí - the preterite - to describe how you believed something at a specific time in the past but creía for how you believed over a certain time period in the past.

I believed you when you said you didn't eat the biscuit. creí

I believed the earth was flat. creía

What follows it is not important - fue, era etc (ie won't effect which choice you make) instead you have to decide whether are you telling the person that this was your point of view over some time or are you referring to something that you came to believe at a certain moment in the past?
