This is how you should say it. Trust me I lived in a Spanish speaking country for over a year. You should say, "¿Puedo tener algunas pastillas para la tos, por favor?".

unlike the English "may I have...?" we don't say "puedo tener?", we just say : ¿Me puede dar unas pastillas para la tos, por favor?. Hope this helps - Dakie, Jul 13, 2011
